What is Benefit Fraud?

Benefit fraud is an illegal crime that occurs when someone knowingly or dishonestly receives benefit when they are not entitled to it. Benefit fraud can be of different types and is motivated by greed or by need. Most of the time, benefit fraud is well planned and organised. The most common type of benefit fraud happens when a person receives benefits but continues or begins employment. When dealing with such cases, benefit fraud lawyers collect facts and a decision is made whether or not to take further action. A benefit fraud solicitor may gather information about the claimant and their family members and then compare this information with that entered on claim forms or information that has been provided in interviews.

There are three ways of reporting benefit fraud. You can fill the benefit fraud form online or you can give the information to the concerned department over the phone or send the details by post. The law says that there must be a strong reason for investigating some one for benefit fraud. You must provide each and every details of the person you are reporting about. You have to provide complete details of benefit theft you think the person has committed and why you suspect him/her.
